Install on macOS
PastePrompt is currently macOS-first. Use the Download page as the source of truth for the current version, release date, available DMG builds, minimum macOS version, checksum, and signing/notarization status.
System requirements
Check the Download page before installing. A release should list:
- Minimum supported macOS version.
- Universal DMG availability, plus any architecture-specific DMGs if a future release publishes them.
- SHA256 checksum for the published artifact.
- Release channel or stream.
- Signing and notarization status for that exact build.
You also need a local repository on disk and macOS permission to read that folder.
If the Download page has not been configured with a version, checksum, or minimum macOS version, treat the build as not ready for public installation.
Apple Silicon vs Intel builds
The current public release uses a Universal DMG, which works on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
- Choose Universal for the current release.
- Use that same DMG on Macs with M1, M2, M3, M4, or newer Apple Silicon chips.
- Use that same DMG on older Intel-based Macs.
If you are unsure which Mac you have, open Apple menu -> About This Mac and check the chip or processor field.
Install from DMG
- Open the Download page.
- Download the Universal DMG.
- Verify the checksum before opening the app.
- Open the DMG.
- Drag PastePrompt to Applications.
- Eject the DMG.
- Launch PastePrompt from Applications.
Verify the checksum
Run this in Terminal after downloading the DMG:
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/PastePrompt.dmg
Compare the output to the SHA256 value on the Download page.
If the checksum does not match, do not launch the app. Delete the DMG, download it again from the configured release link, and contact support if it still differs.
First launch
On first launch, macOS may show a security prompt because the app was downloaded from the internet. Read the prompt before approving it. The current public DMG is Developer ID signed and Apple-notarized; the Download page should state the signing and notarization status for the release you are using.
File permissions
PastePrompt needs permission to read repositories you select. macOS may ask for access to folders such as Documents, Desktop, Downloads, external drives, or synced folders.
If PastePrompt cannot read a repository:
- Confirm the folder still exists.
- Select the repository again from inside PastePrompt.
- Grant the macOS permission prompt if shown.
- Check System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Files and Folders if macOS blocked access.
- Avoid selecting a symlink or restricted system directory as the first test repository.
Gatekeeper troubleshooting
If macOS says the app cannot be opened:
- Confirm the DMG came from the configured PastePrompt download link.
- Verify the SHA256 checksum.
- Move PastePrompt to Applications.
- Control-click PastePrompt and choose Open.
- Confirm only if the build and checksum match the release notes.
Do not bypass Gatekeeper for a DMG from an unknown source or a file with a mismatched checksum.
Uninstall PastePrompt
To remove the app:
- Quit PastePrompt.
- Open Applications.
- Move PastePrompt to Trash.
- Empty Trash if you want to remove the app bundle immediately.
Local settings, workspaces, templates, and history may be stored separately from the app bundle. If the app exposes a reset option, use that before uninstalling when you want to remove local app data.
