macOS Install Troubleshooting

Use this page when a DMG will not open, macOS blocks first launch, or the app does not appear in Applications.

Quick checklist

  1. Confirm you downloaded the DMG from the configured Download page link.
  2. Verify the SHA256 checksum.
  3. Open the DMG again.
  4. Drag PastePrompt to Applications.
  5. Launch from Applications, not directly from the DMG.
  6. If Gatekeeper blocks launch, Control-click PastePrompt, choose Open, and read the prompt carefully.

macOS says the app cannot be opened

This release may show additional macOS security prompts if signing or notarization is not configured for the artifact you downloaded.

  1. Do not bypass the prompt immediately.
  2. Verify that the DMG came from the configured Download page.
  3. Compare the SHA256 checksum.
  4. Move the app to Applications.
  5. Control-click PastePrompt and choose Open.
  6. If macOS still blocks the app, check System Settings -> Privacy & Security for an allow prompt.
Verify first

Only open a blocked release build after verifying the download source and checksum. Do not launch a DMG that came from an unofficial link.

DMG opens but the app is missing

  1. Reopen the DMG.
  2. Look for the PastePrompt app icon inside the mounted disk image.
  3. Drag the app into Applications.
  4. Eject the DMG.
  5. Launch PastePrompt from Applications.

Do not run PastePrompt directly from the mounted DMG for normal use.

App asks for file permissions

PastePrompt needs permission to read repositories you explicitly select. If macOS asks for folder access:

  1. Confirm the path is the repository you meant to open.
  2. Allow access through the macOS prompt.
  3. If you denied access by mistake, grant access from System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Files and Folders or select the repo again.

If the checksum fails

Do not launch the app. Delete the DMG, download it again, and contact support if the checksum still does not match.

How to send a safe install report

Include:

  • PastePrompt version or release filename.
  • macOS version and chip type: Apple Silicon or Intel.
  • The exact macOS prompt text.
  • Whether checksum verification passed.

Do not include source code, license secrets, private repository paths, or client names.
